Community Over Competition Creates An Amazing Outcome For NDIS Participant
YP Coordination recently commenced support Coordination for an NDIS participant who was unceremoniously dumped from a service provider. This participant has support workers attend her home twice a day, morning and night, and is solely reliant on support workers. Without swift action they would have been left in an unsafe and incredibly vulnerable position.
With permission from the participant, YP Coordination called upon two local Disability support service provider managers Jade Sawyers from Access4U and Kally Groome of Focus Care Yorke and Mid North. Due to the number of supports required, the participant had requested two services to be able to have enough support workers be a regular part of her ongoing support schedule, with enough supports workers as back up that she should never be left with the phone call “your support worker is sick, and we don’t have anyone to support you today”. Within one day of the urgent referral request and reaching out to these new disability service providers, a joint meeting was held at the participants home, and an intake meeting was completed. Supports will be implemented from next week, to commence the day after the last day of service of previous provider, ensuring no support interruptions.
This is an outstanding achievement, and only brought about by the embodiment of the values of “community over competition”, held by YP Coordination, Access4U and Focus Care Yorke and Mid North. “We can achieve great things when we work collaboratively, and working together can be only positive in towards creating amazing outcomes and opportunities for the people that our businesses support – people with disabilities” contributed Jade Sawyers. This industry supports people that are vulnerable, lonely and they trust that they are getting the best service. Alarmingly, this is sometimes not the case. It is amazing to see that several disability support service organisations in our area are starting to break down the practice of operating in silos, and are keen to work together. YP Coordination are excited to see what other amazing outcomes will be achieved this year for participants on the Yorke Peninsula!
