Valentines Connections and Cookies Workshops

Laughter, the rolling of fondant and flowing conversations were the wonderful sounds of some beautiful connections being made at the recent YP Coordination Valentines Connections and Cookies Workshops. We saw the need for the creation of welcoming, inclusive and friendly opportunities for people on the Yorke Peninsula to connect. Our goal is to create relaxed events and workshops for ALL members of community to come along and make meaningful connections and friendships, and have something fun to do and look forward to in our region! Our first 2 workshops achieved this goal! Some feedback that was received from the Valentines Connections and Cookies workshop included:

“It was a lovely afternoon – fun, inclusive and welcoming.”

“I enjoyed meeting people that otherwise would never have met. Everyone chatted and appeared to have a good time.”

Cofounder of YP Coordination Fallon Watts shared her expert baking and decorating skills and guided the workshop participants through the process of rolling fondant, using the decorating tools and equipment to create beautiful and custom designs, and finally how to display their box of unique cookies to present to a loved one (or keep for themselves!). There were some very creative cookies designed, with some tongue in cheek ones and some designs that were simply works of art!

Some further feedback received about the delivery style of the workshop included:

“I had a wonderful time, everything was explained well. Fallon and Ali were very helpful, friendly, and we will come again.”

“It was nice to attend a workshop where everything was clearly explained.”

YP coordination values community, meaningful connections and relationships and reducing the high reliance of formal supports (paid supports) for people with disabilities. These workshops are open for all members of the community to attend – mums, dads, brothers, sisters, children, adults, grandparents – you!! It is imperative that inclusive events are created for all to enjoy and connect and where some powerful conversations can start!
